Death investigation at area gas station

Updated:

The Jasper County Sheriff's Office is investigating why a 24 year old man died of an apparent cardiac arrest.  Police say it happened at the Fast Trip at 5869 North Main Street in Airport Drive.

Authorities say the incident happened at about 11:37 p.m. on Friday.

Authorities describe what happened as "unusual".

The Jasper County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called out after a convenience store clerk complained about a man locked in the bathroom.  When deputies arrived they heard a man screaming and officers had to unlock the bathroom door themselves.

Police say while the man was still in the convenience store, he looked like he was suffering from a cardiac arrest.  The man later died at a hospital.

The man has been identified as Shea Millsap, 24 of Springfield, Missouri.  His body has been taken to Springfield for an autopsy.

"We consider it very unusual to have a 24-year-old that goes into what's an apparent cardiac arrest, that's why we've asked the coroner to give an autopsy done so we can find out what transpired," says Captain Derek Walrod of the Jasper County Sheriff's Office.

Police say it could be a few weeks before toxicology results from blood work are sent back to the Jasper County Sheriff's Office.

Police say they believe they have many leads to what happened.
