Renovations underway at Crowder College housing units

Updated:

Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri is spending big dollars for dorms.

Renovations are underway on Crowder's current housing units.  Crews are working to put in new showers in each house, which have six rooms for 12 occupants.  Each unit is also getting new paint, beds and mattresses.

The college is also planning a  new multi-story dorm to be built in the same complex by 2015.

Officials say they need to meet student demand.

"We hope to house about 200 students on three to four stories - we're working with construction managers and architects now to put that in the works we're really excited," says Tiffany Slinkard, the Vice President of Student Affairs for Crowder College.  "We expect the project to cost around $7.5 million and it will double our occupancy when the buildings complete."

Dorms can be a big recruiting tool.
