FROM THE OFFICE OF CONGRESSWOMAN LYNN JENKINS (KANSAS):
WASHINGTON – The U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R.2642, the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management (FARRM) Act of2013 this afternoon. Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins(KS-02) released the following statement after supporting the bill:
"EveryAmerican and their family depends on our hardworking farmers and ranchers toprovide a safe, reliable, and abundant food supply. As someone who grew up on aKansas dairy farm, I know our agriculture producers need certain and stablepolicy from the federal government to do their jobs.
"Ourcurrent agriculture policy is inefficient and outdated, and I supported theFARRM bill, because I refuse to accept the status quo. The House billeliminates direct payments, improves crop insurance, and saves taxpayers nearly$20 billion. This is progress, and will allow us to come together with theSenate and create a better system than we currently have today. Doing nothing, yet again, would have been irresponsible and put our food security at risk."
