Joplin police investigating report of child left in car with windows up during hot weather

Police want to remind you of the danger of leaving a child inside a hot car.

Joplin police were called to Casey's General Store on 32nd Street when a child was left in a car with the windows up.

The car left before police got there.

But police say it's a reminder that children's bodies are especially susceptible to the heat.

"Children aren't able to regulate their body temperature as well as adults are," says Lt. Matt Stewart of the Joplin Police Department.  "Their temperature can actually rise three times faster than an adult."

Authorities say leaving a child in a car can lead to a charge of child neglect.
