Twinkies have returned to store shelves. With Hostess under new ownership the snack cake has a slightly different recipe that extends the cakes shelf life from 26 days to 45.
The spongy cakes are also a little smaller than you might remember. According to the new boxes they are about four grams smaller.
Four State shoppers we spoke with on Monday are happy the cakes are back.
"I've always loved Twinkies, I couldn't believe it when they quit making them - 'what's going on?'" says Tom Restivo. "But they're back and I'm happy."
"I think it's great for America because it's been kind of an All-Amercan treat, so I think it's awesome," says Dana Thurston.
The Hostess plant in Emporia is one of four of the original 11 plants reopening bringing back more than 200 jobs to the area. The city is having a Twinkie Festival on Monday to honor the reopening. The new ownership decided to reopen it as the company's flagship bakery.
