Missouri lawmakers visit Joplin to discuss downsizing state government funding

Updated:

Missouri lawmakers met in Joplin on Wednesday to hear citizens concerns on downsizing state government funding.

Joplin is one of nine cities the committee of House Representatives is stopping in this week to talk about the issue.

Representatives covered all parts of the state looking for areas where government is competing with private enterprise, and if there is evidence that government has grown too intrusive.

Officials say hearing from the citizens is very important especially in smaller cities like Joplin because it's easier to pinpoint where government problems lie.

"This is where we want to hear what people have concerns about because downsizing has a lot of boundaries," says Representative Bill White.  "We can see any bill that the speaker assigns to us, but downsizing crosses a lot of different departments."
