Charges filed following overnight shooting in Joplin

The Newton County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that occurred outside of a Joplin home overnight.

A 53-year-old man claimed that he was called to the home by a 40-year-old woman who lived there.

The victim says that as he drove up a man at the home, fired a shotgun and pellets struck the man's arm and vehicle.

Investigators have charged Clifton Beard, 56, with first degree assault, armed criminal action, and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.
