Four Staters celebrate National Hot Dog Day

Tuesday is National Hot Dog Day.  Hot dogs are centerpiece in American culture from the grill, ballpark, and street corners.

In fact, the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council reports we buy more than 837 million packages of hot dogs at retail outlets every year.  We consume about 24 million hot dogs at baseball stadiums alone every year.

To celebrate the special occasion Instant Karma in Joplin is doing a two-for-one special and we asked some residents what their favorite kind of hot dog is.

"My favorite hot dog is the 'Turning Japanese' because the teriyaki sauce just gives it a wonderful flavor," says Lenny Berbaker.

"A good cheap dog is the best but in Chicago I had a cognac infused pheasant dog with a truffle butter sauce and it was pretty good," says Dave Lash.

"It's amazing how something as small as a hot dog wrapped in bacon will bring everybody out, especially when you do a nice special and it's good to see Americans come out and supporting American things," says Joshua Linders, a chef for Instant Karma.
