An open house in Joplin on Saturday isn't your average home tour. It's Joplin's first reproducible green home.
The original home at 2215 West 27th Street was destroyed in the 2011 tornado but has been rebuilt to meet highest energy-efficient standards.
Everything from insulation and air sealing to windows lighting and heating and cooling systems have all been designed to lower utility bills.
"With this, we can keep a good eye on our expenses as far as utilities cost," says home builder Frank Schaffer II. "The energy efficiency part of it is the future of things."
The open house is scheduled for Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
