Joplin Readers celebrate success of Reading Program

Updated:

Saturday was a day of celebration of success for readers at the Joplin Public Library in Downtown Joplin.

After spending all summer reading books, local children got to celebrate their success in the library's "Dig into Reading" summer program. The program lasted 9 weeks, and encouraged kids to read books in order to keep their skills active during the summer months.

The library offered free games, face-painting, inflatables, and crafts to all kids who participated in the program.

"I was supposed to be going to summer school, cause I am really down low on my reading and my reading got kind of higher since for the reading program." 5th grader, Emory Allen says.

Each child who participated in the program received 2 paperback books and access to different library activities throughout the summer.
