A southwest Missouri cadet receives the highest award the Civil Air Patrol cadet program can bestow.
Cadet Colonel Marlan Campbell received his Spaatz Award on Friday in a formal ceremony at Camp Clark in Nevada, Missouri.
Eighteen year old Campbell will be attending The Citadel this fall to pursue a degree in business administration.
Named after the first Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, General Carl A. Spaatz, Campbell says the award is a great honor.
"To me, it's - it's an example of I can achieve something and if I can put my mind to it I can get something done," says Cadet Colonel Marlan Campbell.
Officials say about one in 500 cadets achieve the rank of Colonel.
