Allen County Drowning

A weekend water rescue in southeast Kansas ends with responders recovering the body of a 23-year-old Sunday morning.

According to Allen County Sheriff's Office the rescue attempt started late Saturday afternoon after three friends were separated from their tubes at the South Buckeye Dam in Iola, Kansas.

Two were able to make it to shore but the third, 23 year old Zane Forbis was not.

Crews from Iola Police and Fire, the Allen County Sheriff, Chanute Fire, Anderson County Swift Water Rescue, Kansas Wildlife and Parks and the Kansas Highway Patrol's forward looking infrared unit searched until nightfall and picked up again at daybreak.

The teams spotted Forbis in a brush area west of the dam around 9a.m. Sunday morning.
