COACHES PRESEASON FOOTBALL POLL

Updated:

Press Release MIAA Conference:

Things are tight at the top of the MIAA poll as defending MIAA champion Missouri Western sits tied with Northwest Missouri in the coaches poll. The Griffons went 9-1 in the league last year while the Bearcats, who sit atop the media poll, went 8-2 in 2012.

In the coaches poll both NWMSU and MWSU received 159 points and six first place votes. In the media poll they both received ten first place votes but the Bearcats earned ten more points. In both polls they are followed by Pittsburg State who received two first place votes in each poll after going 7-3 last season.

The coaches pegged Central Missouri as the fourth place team while the media picked Washburn. The media had the Mules in the sixth spot while the coaches picked the Ichabods in sixth. Lindenwood was in the fifth slot in both polls after making an appearance in last season's Mineral Water Bowl. Kanza Bowl winner Emporia State was the seventh pick in the both the coaches and media poll.

Missouri Southern and Fort Hays State sit closely in both polls as they are tied for eighth in the media poll. In the coaches poll FHSU sits just two points ahead of MSSU for the eight spot. The two Oklahoma teams flip-flop in the two polls as Central Oklahoma is picked tenth, one point ahead of Northeastern State in the coaches poll. Northeastern State is in the tenth spot in the media poll just 12 points ahead of Central Oklahoma.

Nebraska-Kearney is slotted to finish in 12th place by both the coaches and the media. Southwest Baptist is picked to finish in 13th with Lincoln picked to finish 14th in both polls.

The season is scheduled to get underway on Thursday, Sept. 5 with ten MIAA squads taking the field. The rest of the league's teams will get underway on Saturday, Sept. 7.
