Mental health supports are now centered in downtown Joplin as NAMI moves its offices.
NAMI's home is on 2nd Street next to the Greyhound bus station.
Board members say the old location on Davis Boulevard was too far for many clients. Some now even live in this neighborhood. Board members say the downtown location makes NAMI accessible to the homeless, veterans or transients who may suffer from mental illness.
Support group meetings for those with mental illness as well as their families and friends are held here. A board member whose son has Asperger's Syndrome says they have helped him go from being a recluse to someone involved in his community.
