Pitt State Football Team Reports to Preseason Camp Sunday

Updated:

Press Release Pittsburg State University:

The Pittsburg State University football team will report to campus for the start of preseason camp Sunday (Aug. 11).

Newcomers will report mid-day with the veterans returning to campus Sunday evening. The Gorillas' first practice will take place Monday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m. at Carnie Smith Stadium.

Pitt State head coach Tim Beck will welcome approximately 120 players into the fall camp. The Gorillas return 15 starters (8 offense, 7 defense) from last year's squad.
Due to NCAA regulations, Pitt State will undergo a five-day acclimatization period from Monday, Aug. 12, through Friday, Aug. 16. The Gorillas will practice once daily – in helmets only the first two days, in helmets and shoulder pads on days three and four, and finally in full pads on the fifth day of the acclimatization period.

After the five-day period, a team cannot have consecutive days of multiple on-field practice sessions. Therefore, Pitt State will conduct its first two-a-day practice session Saturday, Aug. 17. Saturday's evening practice session will begin at 8 p.m.

Autograph Day/Media Day
Pitt State will host its annual Autograph Day event Saturday, Aug. 17, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Pittsburg's Meadowbrook Mall.  Gorilla players and coaches will be on hand to autograph free copies of the 2013 Football Schedule Posters.

Pitt State then will host its Media Day event Sunday, Aug. 18, at 12 Noon at Brandenburg Field/Carnie Smith Stadium. The Gorillas will take their 2013 team photo and then take individual and position photos that afternoon.

Both events are open to the public.

Also on Aug. 17, Pitt State will conduct its annual YMCA Youth Football Clinic at 10 a.m. at Carnie Smith Stadium and the Gorillas will host their Fourth Annual Ladies Night At The Pitt beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Pitt State opens the 2013 season on Saturday, Sept. 7, by hosting MIAA rival Northeastern State University at 7 p.m. at Carnie Smith Stadium.
