Arkansas earns first top-10 finish in CLC rankings

Forthe first time in school history, the University of Arkansas has finished inthe Collegiate Licensing Company's (CLC) top-10 selling institutions based onroyalties generated from officially licensed products. The Razorbacks moved upfour spots from last year, finishing 10th among CLC schools, markingthe first time Arkansas has cracked the top 10 since partnering with theaffiliate of IMG College in 1988.
            From July 1,2012 through June 30, 2013, the University of Arkansas licensing programgenerated $4,047,327 in gross royalties from licensed merchandise. This totalrepresented a seven-percent increase ($273,188) from last year and marked thefirst time in school history gross royalties exceeded $4 million. Revenuesgenerated from the institution's licensing program provide support for theUniversity of Arkansas' women's sport programs.
            "Thetremendous loyalty and passion of Razorback fans combined with the strategicexpansion of our licensing program has placed the University of Arkansas amongthe nation's elite institutions in the sales of officially licensed products,"Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. "We appreciate theefforts of our licensing team, our partners at CLC, all of our licensees andvendors and of course the Razorback fans that helped the University of Arkansasset new sales records. By purchasing officially licensed products, our fans arenot only showing their Razorback pride, they are helping provide support forthe continued success of our program and Razorback student-athletes."

           The retail marketplace for college licensed merchandise in 2012 was estimatedat $4.62 billion. Royalties generated from the sale of officially licensedcollegiate products go back to the institutions to support various student andcampus endeavors, therefore it is important for consumers to ensure themerchandise they purchase is officially licensed. Topapparel categories for 2012-13 included T-shirts, women's apparel, fleece, andheadwear. Top non-apparel categories included video games, housewares,domestics, and sports equipment.

           In addition, the University of Arkansas' official apparel partner, NIKE, toppedthe CLC list for licensees. NIKE USA Inc. has beenthe No. 1 collegiate apparel licensee for two consecutive years. Excluding the2009-10 and 2010-11 fiscal years, NIKE USA Inc. has held the position of topapparel licensee since 1999.

    Crews Battle Vehicle Fire On Highway 69

    The Cherokee Township, Weir, and Galena Fire Departments fought a vehicle fire today (May 25) around 7:30 p.m. on Highway 69 near Highway 103. According to authorities a truck was heading south on 69 Highway when the vehicle started smoking. The truck was then completely engulfed by flames. The driver managed to escape the vehicle without any serious injury. Crews had the fire put out by 8:00 p.m. No word yet on what caused the truck to catch on fire.More >>
