Hegarty Announces Fall Women’s Tennis Schedule

Universityof Arkansas women's tennis head coach Michael Hegarty announced the team's 2013fall schedule on Tuesday. The Razorbacks will compete in nine events this fall,including playing host to their own Razorback Classic.

 

Theseason begins Sept. 20-22, with select Razorbacks competing at either theLittle Rock Classic in Little Rock, Ark., or the William & Mary TribeInvitational in Williamsburg, Va.

 

Arkansaswill have another dual-event weekend, Sept. 27-29, with select Razorbackscompeting at either the Colorado Invitational in Boulder, Colo., or at theRiviera Pre-Qualifiers held in Los Angeles. Riviera competition is known toshowcase some of the nation's best athletes and high level collegiate tennis.

 

TheRazorbacks remain home, Oct. 4-6, to host the Razorback Classic inFayetteville. This marks the second consecutive season that Arkansas will hostthe home event.

 

Nationalcompetition resumes the following weekend, as Arkansas sends athletes to theUSTA NTC Classic in New York. Select Razorbacks will also compete at the ITACentral Regional Championship in Norman, Okla., Oct. 18-21.

 

"TheFall schedule will provide us with excellent preparation for our championshipseason in the spring," Coach Hegarty said. "The Riviera All-American and theCentral Region Championships are always highlights and we will get great matchplay across the board."

 

Arkansaswraps up its fall season during the month of November, first travelling toHouston for the Houston Cougar Invitational, Nov. 1-3, then heading to the ITAIndoor Nationals in New York, Nov. 7-10.

    Crews Battle Vehicle Fire On Highway 69

    The Cherokee Township, Weir, and Galena Fire Departments fought a vehicle fire today (May 25) around 7:30 p.m. on Highway 69 near Highway 103. According to authorities a truck was heading south on 69 Highway when the vehicle started smoking. The truck was then completely engulfed by flames. The driver managed to escape the vehicle without any serious injury. Crews had the fire put out by 8:00 p.m. No word yet on what caused the truck to catch on fire.More >>
