The University of Arkansas headcross country and track and field coach Chris Bucknam has been inducted to theUniversity of Northern Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame. Bucknam is one of sixindividuals to be inducted in the 2013 Hall of Fame class. The inductionceremony will take place at the UNI campus on Fri., Nov. 8.
Prior to taking over the Arkansasprogram, Bucknam was UNI's head men's track and field coach from 1984-2008 andthe women's head coach from 1997-2008 after beginning his career as a men'sassistant at UNI in 1979. During his tenure at UNI, Bucknam guided his teams to35 league titles, two top-10 and six top-20 finishes at NCAA Indoor and OutdoorChampionships
He was named conference coach ofthe 33 times while in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and coached three individual nationalchampions and 34 All-Americans who earned a total of 85 honors. UNI earned 69All-America honors from 2000-08, including 51 total from 2005-2008. Along withhis various conference coach of the year awards, Bucknam was named UnitedStates Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)Midwest Region Coach of the Year nine times, including five straight honors.
During his time as an assistantand head coach, UNI won or shared 38 conference titles (Mid-Continent andMissouri Valley) including winning nine straight MVC men's indoor titles(2000-2008). Bucknam also guided the Panthers to 25 MVC team titles and 231 MVCindividual crowns.
