Catholic youth group does odd jobs to raise convention funds

Updated:

St. Mary's Catholic Church High School Youth are taking advantage of recent rains and the trimmings left after mowing by offering raking services.  The group is also doing landscaping jobs, car washes and holding a community dinner to raise funds for travel expenses to the National Catholic Youth Convention in Indianapolis in November.

Students say they don't mind sweating for the opportunity to get a different take on praise and worship.  Mary Street says, "In church its very structured,  you do everything according to schedule, you know what you're supposed to do.  But NCYC is fun things to get you involved in your faith and get you to be able to interact with other Catholics your age. You get to learn about your faith in a different environment and learn from another persons perspective.  Trey Melton says, "Yes, its definitely worth it, its a  mind blowing experience.  They have a lot of music, dancing and a  bunch of different shows and people who do a lot of really cool stuff."

The students will hold a community dinner Saturday,  August 24th from 5:00 to 7:30pm  at the South Joplin Christian Church at 19th and Pearl Streets.
