USD 250 improves security at area schools

Updated:

Pittsburg Community Schools have extra security this year.  Right as school ended in May officials did a walk-through to see where safety improvements could be made as a precaution.

Improvements made include a single entrance in and out of the high school, security cameras in the hallways and on doorways, and a School Resource Officer.

A buzzer system is also active at all schools for the secretary to buzz people in and out of the buildings.

"We saw the need to implement these things just to make sure that our students were safer than they already were," says Zach Fletcher, USD 250 Public Information Director.  "There wasn't a fault in security, it was just trying to make sure that we have the best environment for our students across the district."

A fence is also going around the playground at George Nettles Elementary.  It's expected to be complete sometime this fall.
