Gorillas Tabbed No. 21 in AFCA Preseason Top 25 Poll

Press Release Pittsburg State Univversity:  

The Pittsburg State University football team was selected No. 21 in the 2013 Preseason NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll released by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) today (Aug. 19).

The Gorillas, who posted a 7-3 overall record in 2012, received 165 points in the poll.

Defending national champion Valdosta State University received 26 of 32 first-place votes and 766 points to finish No. 1 in the poll. Minnesota State University (726 points), West Texas A&M University (704 points), Northwest Missouri State University (616 points) and Winston-Salem State University (599 points) rounded out the top five.
 
MIAA rival Missouri Western State University was selected No. 6 in the preseason poll, while the University of Central Missouri, Emporia State University and Washburn University all received votes but did not crack the top 25.

The Gorillas were preseason ranked in the NCAA Division II top 25 for the 22nd time in the last 24 years.
 
Pitt State opens its 2013 campaign at home on Sept. 7 against Northeastern State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (CDT).
