Southern soccer selected seventh in MIAA preseason coaches poll

The MissouriSouthern women's soccer team has been picked to finish seventh in the 2013 MIAApreseason coaches poll, the league announced today. 

The Lionsmade it to the quarterfinals of the MIAA Tournament last season before fallingto Central Oklahoma. After starting the season 0-5-1, Southern rebounded tofinish the season 5-5-2. 

CentralMissouri was the unanimous choice to defend its MIAA conference title,garnering 11 of the 12 first-place votes (coaches cannot vote for their ownteams). Preseason No. 23 Central Oklahoma picked up the other first place voteas they were picked to finish second. Northeastern State came in third, whileFort Hays State was fourth, followed by Northwest Missouri and Southwest Baptist.Southern would check in seventh, while Nebraska-Kearney, Missouri Western andWashburn finish out the top ten. Lindenwood and Emporia State round out thepoll. 

The Lionskick off the 2013 season on September 6 when they host 2012 NCAATournament qualifier Southwestern Oklahoma State at Hal Bodon Field at7pm.

    Joplin - A three-run home run in the seventh-inning broke a 1-1 tie and the Missouri Southern baseball team dropped the opener of a four-game series tonight to Central Oklahoma 4-1 at Joe Becker Stadium.Southern (22-20, 15-18 MIAA) saw a solid pitching performance from starter Payton Walker as the sophomore went four innings and scattered six hits.
