A makeshift memorial at Hazel Park for Adriaunna Horton

A makeshift memorial at Hazel Park in Golden City honors the life of 12 year old Adriaunna Horton.  Her family is  still coming to grips with the fact that their little girl won't be returning home.

"Each one of these steps helps us handle things," said Adriaunna Horton's Grandmother Velma Horton.

The girls kidnapping and murder shocked the community of 750 people. Many were left wondering how this could happen.

Adriaunna's grandma remembers her final words to her granddaughter.

"I said yeah honey that's you guys park go for it and then she just disappeared," said Horton.

The family is now turning to faith for comfort.

Horton says, "We been blessed that we were able to find her in two days."

The family was grateful for the unprecedented outpouring of support from the tight knit community, but the family was devastated by the unimaginable loss.  They were left trying to make sense of an utterly senseless crime.

"I knew when they called us to the church what the outcome was going to be, we're doing alright we got the final step to do as far as putting our baby to sleep or away then we go through the court process." said Grandma Horton.

In the time of unimaginable grief, the family is still thankful for the support.

"We appreciate everything you people have done. You have made this a lot easier.  We knew with your help we were going to find our baby girl," Horton said.

Funeral services for Adriaunna Horton will be Wednesday at 1:00pm at the Golden City High School.
