City of Joplin wants public input for development of land at location of hospital destroyed in tornado

Updated:

The City of Joplin is looking for public input concerning development of the land at the former site of St. John's Regional Medical Center.

Mercy gave the land near 26th and McClelland Boulevard to the city after the tornado.

The project manager for Wallace Bajjali, Gary Box, says there's at least nine acres up for use as long as the use is not related to the medical field.

Once plans are made for the site Wallace Bajjali will present the plans to Mercy in the first part of December.

"We want to do what is best for the community and what the community desires," Box says.  "This is an opportunity that we have to potentially to gain something that has been on people's minds for a long time but didn't know how it would be brought forward."

Wallace Bajjali will be holding two public input sessions.  Both are this Thursday in the basement of Joplin City Hall.  The first is at 3:00 p.m.  The second session is at 6:00 p.m.
