Everybody Plays Playground at Pittsburg park

Updated:

There's a new addition at Schlanger Park in Pittsburg, Kansas.  A ribbon cutting was held Wednesday for the new "Everybody Plays Playground".

The universally accessible playground is made out of material that doesn't have tripping hazards and is easy for wheelchairs or strollers to navigate.  The swings have backs on them to support children while they sit.

The playground will allow children and adults with disabilities to fully interact with peers and loved ones.

"Children learn so much from playing on a playground," says Kim Vogel of the City of Pittsburg.  "If all children can play together, those with disabilities and without, they are going to learn so much from each other."

There is still $170,000 worth of work to do on the park.  Officials hope to have it done within a year.
