Rent a Pet fundraiser held at MSSU

A "Rent a Pet" fundraiser was held Wednesday on the campus of Missouri Southern State University.  Ten dogs were brought in by Golden Paw Pet Resort in Joplin and students could pay $1 to hang out with one of the dogs for five minutes or simply donate.

The event put on by the fraternity Sigma Pi and part of the proceeds went to help Golden Paw with expenses of the shelter.

"I had read about it online, there are universities coast to coast doing this Rent a Pet helping pets in shelters get more socialized exposing them to the student body in addition to the public and we were thrilled when Steven wanted MSSU on the calendar," says Rebecca McCall of Golden Paw Animal Rescue and Sanctuary (on Facebook).

"Three of the other brothers got dogs from there so we've all had a really good positive experience, we wanted to give that experience to somebody else, it's fairly reasonable, it helps out the dogs and helps out everybody else," says Steven Babcock of Sigma Pi.

Sigma Pi hopes to hold the event yearly or every other year.

Golden Paw Pet Resort is located at 2300 North Main Street.
