NEWS RELEASE ISSUED AUGUST 29, 2013 BY THE KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

New K-47 Neosho River Bridge open to traffic

As of 11:30 a.m. today (Thursday, Aug. 29) the new K-47 Neosho River Bridge west of St. Paul is open to traffic.

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) began its project to replace the bridge in June 2012. The old steel truss bridge north of the new bridge is being removed.

"I know the process has been a lengthy one that has had its share of setbacks due to weather and the closing of the old bridge," said KDOT chief inspector Chris Pross of the Pittsburg office. "I appreciate all of the continued support and understanding of the traveling public as we complete the remaining items on this project."

B & B Bridge Company, LLC, is contractor on the $4.2 million project. "While the road is open to through traffic, please continue to be cautious as you drive through the site," Pross said. "There are still some items that need to be completed before the project can be considered done, so there may be times that delays happen due to continued construction activities. Please give us the opportunity to finish the project to the quality that you deserve, safely."
