Two physicians join the SEK's Community Health Center

Updated:

Two long-time physicians in Allen County, Kansas have opened their doors to those without  insurance or who are underinsured.

Dr. Brain Wolfe and Dr. Glen Singer have provided healthcare to patients in Allen County, Kansas for 30 years.

"At this point in our practice we are excited to switch gears," said Singer.

Singer and Wolfe are joining forces with the Southeast Kansas Community Health Center.

"There is a significant need for services like this, and we're excited to meet that," said Singer.

"We came to the realization that being a part of an organization like the Community Health Center will allow us to do something we could not otherwise do," said Wolfe.

Talks between the Community Health Center and the two doctors began a year ago.
Now the pieces are put together and both doctors have begun caring for patients who are part of the safety net-clinic.

"Seeing people come in who haven't been able to get their medicines that haven't been able to have the test is very satisfying," said Singer.

Both doctors say there's no monetary benefit with the change.

"I think Dr. Singer and I both have the ideal that it's our ministry," said Wolfe.

The doctors say the change is not because of the affordable care act set to begin in 2014.
