One dead, another in serious injury in crash at Highway 43 and Base Line Road

Updated at 4:15 PM CST:  One person is dead following a two vehicle collision Monday morning about 10 miles north of Joplin on Highway 43.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol crash report a SUV driven by a Wichita man was traveling west on Base Line Road when it failed to stop for a stop sign.  A pickup driven by a Joplin man was traveling north on Highway 43 and struck the broadside of the SUV.

The driver of the SUV, John M Adamson, 50 of Wichita, was wearing a safety device and received minor injuries.  Adamson's wife, Beth W. Adamson, 50, was also wearing a safety device and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The driver of the truck, Gary W. Colson, 63 of Joplin, was not wearing a safety device and was transported to a Joplin hospital.  Colson was last listed in serious condition.

 

Updated at 12:45 PM CST:  Three people were involved in the two-vehicle crash.

The Missouri Highway Patrol is working the crash and says they will release the crash report later this afternoon.

 

Posted at 12:06 PM CST:  Jasper County 911 dispatch has confirmed a crash at Highway 43 and Base Line Road, about seven miles north of Oronogo, Missouri.  No other details available at this time.

We have a crew on the scene and will post more information as it is received.

    The Cherokee Township, Weir, and Galena Fire Departments fought a vehicle fire today (May 25) around 7:30 p.m. on Highway 69 near Highway 103. According to authorities a truck was heading south on 69 Highway when the vehicle started smoking. The truck was then completely engulfed by flames. The driver managed to escape the vehicle without any serious injury. Crews had the fire put out by 8:00 p.m. No word yet on what caused the truck to catch on fire.More >>
