Rachel's Challenge comes to Carl Junction schools

Carl Junction, Missouri students are working to prevent bullying and violence in their schools with a program called Rachel's Challenge (on Facebook).

High school and junior high students spent time learning about the mission on Tuesday, one which is inspired by Rachel Joy Scott, the first victim of the Columbine shootings back in 1999.

With this program organizers hope to inspire people to replace the acts of violence and bullying with acts of respect and kindness.

"They are sharing, they are open, they are honest and I am so amazed with what's starting here and everything with Rachel's Challenge is creating a chain reaction of love and caring and it's starting and it's going to be a good thing," says Carl Junction Schools Superintendent Phillip Cook.

The challenge kicked off Tuesday and will continue throughout the school year.

A community event will be held Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. in honor of the program.  It will be at the Stark Performing Arts Center in Carl Junction.
