Arkansas Tallies Win No. 5 Against Tulsa

The Arkansas Razorback Soccerteam (5-0) was successfully able to keep its unbeaten streak alive with a 1-0win over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (3-1). The Razorbacks picked up the lonegoal in the 66th minute of play from freshman Alexandra Fischer, the first goalof her career.

 

"We told the players to celebrate tonight because they haveearned," head coach Colby Hale said. "I thought tonight was a complete teameffort. At the half we told our players to keep doing what they were doing andgrinding out the game because we felt like something good was going to happen."

 

In the first half of play, both teams were unable to reach thescoreboard. Arkansas outshot Tulsa 8-1 in the first half and amounted fivecorner kicks to Tulsa's one.

In the second half, the Razorbacks put up seven shots on theperiod and found the back of the net in the 66th minute with the effort byFischer. Senior Taylor Green started the action on the play by sending the ballinto the box to Katherine Moore who placed the ball for Fischer. Freshman goalkeeper Cameron Carter picked up her fifth win on the season as well.

 

"We just work really hard, that's what we are all about," HaileyPescatore said. "It is really exciting to have a bunch of students and fanssupporting us and helping us win the game."

 

The Razorbacks who are ranked second in the National SoccerCoaches Association of America regional rankings continue to build on theirrecord start. Tonight's 1-0 win marks the fourth shutout in five games thisseason for Arkansas. Holding Tulsa scoreless on the night, the Razorbacks alsoequaled a program record allowing just two goals through the first five games.The last time Arkansas accomplished that feat was during the 2009 season.

 

The Razorbacks remain home for action on Sunday, Sept. 8, whenthey play host to the Nebraska Huskers. The match is schedule to being at 2p.m. (CT) at Razorback Field. The match will be featured on television on CST.
