Southern men competed in Arkansas for cross country season opener

Theseventh-ranked Missouri Southern men's cross country team opened the seasontonight in a double-dual at the University of Arkansas tonight, competingagainst the Razorbacks and the University of Missouri. 

EricSchott led the Lions finishing third overall with a time of 20:15.3 overthe distance of the 6.6k course. He finished third in the race against Arkansasand won the dual against Missouri, defeating 20 other Tigers in theprocess. 

JakeBenton completed the course in a time of 20:41.7, while RyanJackson had a time of 21:34.6. NathanHenry (21:53.5) and ColtonWooldridge (21:57.4) finished back-to-back, while DrakeSmelser completed the course in a time of 22:42.1. 

Against theRazorbacks, the Lions finished with 44 points to Arkansas' 18 and the Lions had41 points to Missouri's 20. 

The Lionswill be back in action in two weeks when Southern plays host to the SouthernStampede on September 21.

    The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the crash happened on September 18th, 2018 around 7:30 a.m. about 1/2 mile east of Carthage. According to the report, 66-year-old Mark Brewer was driving a Toyota Camry on E.Chestnut St. when he rear-ended a John Deer tractor. The tractor ran off the right side of the roadway. Brewer was flown to Mercy Hospital in Springfield where he died from his injuries on September 21st. Brewer's passenger, Julie Winter, was taken to Mercy Hospita...
