Gov. Nixon issues statement on Senate’s vote to sustain veto of House Bill 436

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Gov. Jay Nixon issued the following statement on the Missouri Senate’s vote to sustain his veto of House Bill 436.

“Missourians deserve common sense solutions that move Missouri forward,” Gov. Nixon said. “As a gun owner and supporter of the Second Amendment, I applaud the bipartisan vote in the Senate to sustain my veto of this unnecessary, unconstitutional and unsafe nullification bill.”

    Joplin, MO - A shooting investigation is underway in Newton County. Officers repsponded to a rural area on the southwest side of the city of Joplin around 5 AM. The victim was in a vehicle near the 3500 block of Cherry Road. Authorities say the victim is a 44-year old male and currently in stable condition at Freeman Hospital with two gun shot wounds. Officials say the victim was under the influence of intoxicants or some type of drug and that the incident was most likely a personal conflict....More >>
