Community Clinic Receives Flu Vaccine Support

Joplin, Missouri – The Community Health Clinic of Joplin is excited to announce that it has received a $28,000 donation in order to provide flu vaccines to low income, uninsured residents of SW Missouri from the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation.

The Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation has underwritten the cost of flu vaccines at the Community Clinic. “The Clinic is extremely excited to obtain this additional funding from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Barbara Bilton, executive director, said. “The Clinic would normally only vaccinate about 100 people due to the cost of the vaccines. This donation will allow us to vaccinate 1,200 people and be really good for our community.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), approximately 36,000-46,000 patients die each year from the flu. The single best way to avoid getting the flu is to get vaccinated, Bilton says.

Flu vaccines are available at The Community Clinic, 701 S. Joplin Ave, in Joplin, Monday-Thursday 8a.m. – 5 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. -12 p.m.; no appointment is necessary.

This donation will support patients that are seen from the service area of Jasper, Newton, McDonald, Lawrence, Vernon, Cedar, Dade, Barry and Barton counties.
