Non-Conference Schedule Continues in Tulsa

The University of Arkansas volleyball team continues itsnon-conference schedule with a weekend road trip to Tulsa, Okla., for theGolden Hurricane Classic. The Razorbacks will be joined at the tournament byNorthern Colorado, Texas State and Tulsa. Arkansas' first match of thetournament will be Friday at 6:30 p.m. (CT) against the host team.

 Live stats and video stream for Friday's match (subscription feesapply) at the Golden Hurricane Classic will be available at Tulsa's officialwebsite. Fans can also follow the weekend's action with radio broadcasts onKXUA 88.3 FM in Fayetteville, match updates through Twitter and interactiveblogs on ArkansasRazorbacks.com.

 "This is an unbelievable tournament," head coach RobertPulliza said. "I think all four teams can be an NCAA Tournament team this year.Everyone has played a tough schedule so nobody is going to be scared of anybodyand they're going to really go after it. It's going to be strongest surviveswhen it's all said and done. We're excited for the weekend."

 Three of the teams in the field—Arkansas, Northern Colorado andTulsa—advanced to last year's NCAA Tournament. The Razorbacks will play bothNorthern Colorado and Texas State on day two of the tournament at 10 a.m. and 5p.m., respectively. The two-day event will be contested at the Reynolds Centeron the TU campus.

 In their last outing, Arkansas (4-2) traveled to Lawrence, Kan.,for a five-set victory over the Jayhawks on their home court. Junior MeredithHays registered 22 kills for the second-straight match while senior Hayley Koopadded 15 kills coupled with a .464 hitting percentage. Defensively, theRazorbacks were paced by 24 digs from senior libero Emily Helm and six totalblocks from redshirt freshman Ana Sofia Jusino.

 Helm was recognized Monday as the SEC Defensive Player of the Weekfor her collective efforts during Arkansas' three matches last week. The QueenCreek, Ariz., native averaged 5.31 digs per set during the week and tallied acareer-high 27 digs in the team's first match against Kansas. With her week'sperformance, Helm added more than one dig to her season average and now isfifth in the SEC with 4.38 digs per set.

    Crews Battle Vehicle Fire On Highway 69

    The Cherokee Township, Weir, and Galena Fire Departments fought a vehicle fire today (May 25) around 7:30 p.m. on Highway 69 near Highway 103. According to authorities a truck was heading south on 69 Highway when the vehicle started smoking. The truck was then completely engulfed by flames. The driver managed to escape the vehicle without any serious injury. Crews had the fire put out by 8:00 p.m. No word yet on what caused the truck to catch on fire.More >>
