Charges filed against man accused of evading arrest and assaulting an officer

Updated September 18, 2013:  John Wright has been charged with 2nd degree robbery, tampering with a motor vehicle and attempted assault in the 2nd degree.

Wright is being held on a $15,000 bond.

We have been informed that the suspect, John Wright, was not involved in a stabbing in Webb City as earlier reported.  The suspect had made threats towards an ex-girlfriend.  We apologize for the confusion on this matter.

At approximately 8:52 this morning we received a call from a citizen stating that they thought that the suspect was at the OK Bar located in the 1500 block of Main. Officers responded to the area and located the suspect. The suspect fled on foot again and used Mace (OC Spray) against one of the officers that was involved. Officers gave chase to the suspect and he was located in a detached garage located at 1601 S. Joplin. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. He is currently being held in the Joplin City Jail pending further charges.

Joplin Police Looking for Suspect Involved in Ex-Parte Violation and Purse Snatching

On September 17, 2013 at approximately 5:55 am the Joplin Police Department received a call for a possible violation of an Ex-Parte and for a theft of the victim's purse that had occurred at 1301 S. Picher.  The suspect, who was identified as John Wright, left the area on foot.  Several officers with the Joplin Police Department as well as the Jasper County Sheriff's Office, and the Newton County Sheriff's Office responded to the area to try and locate the suspect.  According to the Jasper County Sheriff's Office, the suspect was also involved in a stabbing that occurred in Webb City over the weekend. 

Officers set up a perimeter in the area and attempted a track with a K9, but were unsuccessful in locating the suspect.  Mr. Wright is described as a white male, approximately 508-510 and weighs 160-180 pounds.  Mr. Wright also has a probation violation warrant that is active.  The Police Department will submit charges later to the Jasper County Prosecutor's Office.
