More details released regarding armed subject with explosive device arrested in Vernon County

More information was released about the Stormy Miller caselate Friday afternoon. Sheriff Jason Mosher said that a warrant has been issuedfor Stormy Miller charging him with possession of a controlled substance,possession of an explosive weapon, and unlawful use of a weapon. Mosher saidthe Missouri Highway Patrol Bomb Squad was called out Tuesday night after anexplosive device was located when Sheriff's Deputies arrested Miller.

Sheriff Mosher said the Bomb Squad called the device and"IED" capable of causing physical injury or death. Mosher said Miller was askedabout the explosive device during an interview and Miller told investigators whathis intentions were with the device, although the Sheriff said he could notgive out that information. The Bomb Squad took an ex-ray photo of the devicebefore performing a procedure that made the bomb "safe." Mosher said he couldnot release any specifics about how the bomb was made but that a sample of thepowder contained in the bomb has been sent to the Missouri State Crime Lab foranalysis.

Mosher said the ATF was also notified about the device andhas been working with Vernon County Investigators. Mosher declined to commenton whether or not this would become a federal case. The Sheriff said he wasjust glad they were able to recover the device and the weapon before anyone washurt.

Mosher said that stolen property has also beenrecovered at an undisclosed county address and that charges are expected to befiled from both the Vernon County Sheriff's Office and the Nevada PoliceDepartment in the near future. "We have been working with the Nevada PoliceDepartment on several thefts that involve both agencies" said Mosher. "Most ofthe time when we find drugs we find stolen property as well." Mosher said thatMiller has been a suspect in the thefts for quite some time and had ran fromSheriff's Deputies as well as Nevada Police Officers over the last few weeks.Although Mosher would not give any specifics about what type of property hasbeen recovered, he did state that the value was in the thousands. Mosher saidSheriff's Deputies and Nevada Police Investigators continue to work on thecase.

A fugitive from justice is behind bars after a traffic stop was conducted by Sheriff's Deputies Tuesday. The Sheriff's Office said in a press release that Stormy Miller, 22 of Nevada will face multiple felony charges after being arrested Tuesday.

According to the press release, Chief Deputy Shayne Simmons, and Sheriff Jason Mosher were following up on leads they had received about a suspicious vehicle at Elmwood Apartments. The vehicle matched the description of a truck that had ran from Sheriff's Deputies late Tuesday night of last week.

Miller was wanted for outstanding warrants and also a person of interest in several burglaries in the county.

The Sheriff said they searched the area for several hours and found Miller getting into a grey Pontiac. They attempted a traffic stop at Atlantic and Oak in Nevada but the Pontiac did not stop. The car continued to Commercial Street where it finely stopped. Chief Deputy Shayne Simmons ordered Miller to get out of the car but he would not comply. Simmons then pulled Miller form the car and Mosher detained the driver.

After both subjects were in custody, a loaded 9mm semi auto pistol was found in the front of Millers pants. Mosher said they also found an "explosive device" in a bag Miller had on him along with approximately 10 grams of a white crystal substance that field tested positive for methamphetamines along with neuromas small baggies packaged for distribution. Scales, several meth pipes and other drug paraphernalia and extra ammunition, and magazines for the handgun were also found on Miller.

Miller is being held in the Vernon County Jail on outstanding warrants and faces charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession/manufacturing of an explosive device.

Sheriff Mosher said they have contacted the ATF about the explosive device.
