Macy Claims Individual Title to Lead Pitt State Women, Gorilla Men Finish Third

Senior Jessica Macy made an impressive debut for the Pitt State women's cross country team, racing to the individual victory in the season-opening Missouri Southern Stampede Saturday (Sept. 21).
 
Macy won the five-kilometer race in 16 minutes, 52.56 seconds, defeating her closest competitor, Harding's Ewa Zaborowska (17:29.99), by more than 36 seconds.
 
The Gorillas finished the meet with 59 points to finish second behind MIAA rival Southwest Baptist. The Bearcats scored a low 34 points. The host school, Missouri Southern, was third with 98 points.
 
Sophomores Austin Bogina and Chris Wise finished ninth and 10th, respectively, to lead the Pitt State men to a third-place team finish. The Gorillas scored 114 points to finish behind MSSU (56 pts) and SBU (105 pts).
 
Senior Casey Epps placed ninth overall in 18:11.81 for the Pitt State women, while junior Alex Moase finished 15th (18:27.13), freshman Carlin Greene placed 16th (18:32.32) and freshman Paige White finished 18th overall (18:34.04).
 
For the men, Bogina led the Gorillas across the finish line in the eight-kilometer race in 25:28.17, while Wise followed close behind in 25:33.85.
 
Freshman Ren Bean also finished 29th overall in 26:08.22, senior Ethan Silovsky placed 31st in 26.08.80 and junior Talon Thompson finished 33rd in 26:12.44.
