Cowgirl Tennis Resumes Tournament Action in Kansas City

PRESS RELEASE OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY:

TheOklahoma State women's tennis team continued competition at the MissouriInvitational on Saturday in Kansas City, Mo.

TheCowgirls started the day strong by sweeping Nebraska in doubles play. CowgirlsKanyapat Narattana and Carla Tur Mari picked up their third win of the weekendwhen they downed Nebraska's Lisa Andersson and Mary Hannah, 8-2. OklahomaState's Karyn Guttormsen and Maria Alvarez defeated Brittany Brewster andMaggie Lehmicke, 8-3. Freshmen Megan McCray and Morgan McCray were also victoriousin their first match of the day, defeating MaikeZeppernick and Hannah Sulz, 8-5, to grab their first doubles win of thetournament.

TheCowgirls would take on Princeton for the second time this weekend in thefollowing round of doubles competition. Oklahoma State's Karyn Guttormsen andMaria Alvarez won a tight tiebreaker to knock off Emily Hahn and Alanna Wolff,8-7 (8-6). Narattana and Tur Mari took their first loss of the weekend in atough 8-6 match against Princeton's Katherine Flannigan and Dorothy Tang.

OklahomaState faced Missouri in Saturday's singles competition. Cowgirl Megan McCraywon a third set tiebreaker to knock off No. 72 Cierra Gaytan-Leach, 4-6, 6-4,10-6. Karyn Guttormsen was the only other Cowgirl to win her singles match onSaturday, defeating Missouri's Elisha Gabb, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-7. Freshman CarlaTur Mari took the second set in her match to push her opponent to a third settiebreaker, but came up just short, falling to Alex Clark of Missouri, 7-6,5-7, 10-7.

TheCowgirls will look to finish the Missouri Invitational strong on Sunday.Competition is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
