Dana Wilhelm named MIAA Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week

Seniordefender DanaWilhelm was named the MIAA Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week, asannounced by the conference office today.

Helping theLions notch a pair of shutouts on the opening weekend of MIAA play, the St.Louis native played a key role in Southern tying Central Oklahoma in ascoreless draw Friday and securing a 2-0 win over previously unbeatenNortheastern State Sunday.

The Lions'defense would face a combined 41 shots from the Bronchos and RiverHawks,including 20 on goal, without allowing a goal. In addition to playing soliddefense all weekend, Wilhelm would notch the game-winning goal against NSU inthe 48th minute while coming up with a huge block in the match against theRiverhawks as she would deflect a shot-on-goal attempt by NSU to preserve theshutout for the Lions.

The Lionsreturn to action Friday when they travel to Fort Hays State to take on theTigers at FHSU Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m.
