Parsons hopes to make students walk to school a little safer

The City of Parsons has announced a new project to make the trip to and from school a little bit easier and safer for students. The project will re-route traffic to create better flow for buses and the loading and unloading of students.

A majority of the construction will take place in front of the middle school on West Main Street.

Parsons officials say everyone is working hard to keep students safe.

"Over the past three years our police enforcement has ramped up and we have written more than tickets in that area for people failing to yield for pedestrians and for speeding in a school zone," says Kari West, Public Information Officer for Parsons.

The renovations will be funded by a $250,000 grant provided by the Kansas Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration.
