Bobby Wernes had three hits anddrove in two runs, while Clark Eagan, Dominic Taccolini and Krisjon Wilkersoneach had a pair of hits to lead White to a 10-4 win over Red on Thursdayafternoon at Baum Stadium.

 

The victory gives White a 1-0lead in the second best-of-five Red-White series. Game two of the series isscheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Freshman RHP James Teague will startfor White while freshman righty Alex Phillips will start for Red.

 

The White team had its bestoffensive game of the Red-White series so far, scoring 10 runs and pounding out10 hits. Four different players had multiple hits in the game, led by Wernes,who had a game-high three hits with two RBI and two runs scored. Eagan,Taccolini and Wilkerson each had two hits. Eagan added three RBI in thevictory.

 

Tre Edwards had two hits and aRBI to lead the Red team offensively. Andrew Benintendi reached base all fourtimes, going 1-for-1 with three walks, a RBI and two runs scored.

 

Along with his pair of hits,Taccolini also earned the win on the mound, working four innings and giving uptwo runs. Zach Jackson took the loss for Red after allowing four runs on fourhits in three innings.

 

White struck first with a pair ofruns in the top of the first as Wilkerson hit a two-out RBI double and Eagandrove in a run with a RBI single. Red answered with a run of its own in thefirst on a groundout to third by Matt Brown.

 

White stretched the lead to 4-1in the top of the third and two-out, two-RBI triple from Eagan plated Wilkersonand Tyler Spoon. Another run crossed the plate in the fourth on a RBI single byTaccolini. Red got a run back in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI single toleft by Edwards.

 

White broke the game open withfour runs in the top of the sixth. The first two runs of the inning scored on asingle by Wernes. Josh Alberius drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and thefourth run of the inning scored on a wild pitch.

 

Red was unable to get any closerthan six runs the rest of the game as White claimed a 10-4 victory and a 1-0 serieslead.
