Volkert, Macy Lead Gorilla Squads at Roy Griak Invitational

Seniors Adam Volkert and Jessica Macy turned in outstanding individual races leading the Pittsburg State men's and women's cross country teams in the Maroon Division II division of the 28th Annual Roy Griak Invitational Saturday (Sept. 28).

Volkert pulled away late in the men's eight-kilometer race to claim the individual victory and lead the Gorillas to a sixth place team finish. Macy turned in a steady effort as well, crossing the finish line in the six-kilometer race in 21:39.1 to lead the Gorillas to a third place team showing.

The Pitt State women compiled 146 points to finish behind Augustana (S.D.), which won the meet with a low 83 points, and Minnesota Duluth (121 points).

Following Macy, senior Casey Epps finished 21st overall in 23:29.3 and junior Alex Moase placed 29th in 23:37.4. Junior Cate Dunn also finished 37th overall in 23:40.3.

Augustana's Runa Falch won the meet in 21:34.4.

The Pitt State men compiled 240 points to finish behind Augustana, which won the meet with a low 53 points, Wisconsin-LaCrosse (102 pts), Central Missouri (124 pts), Lakehead University (177 pts) and UC-San Diego (191 pts).

Following Volkert, sophomore Chris Wise finished 44th in 26:36 and junior Collin Hubert placed 59th overall in 26:48. Senior Ethan Silovsky placed 64th overall (26:52) and Austin Bogina finished 72nd in 26:57.

    A former Columbus elementary principal is found guilty of attempted indecent solicitation of a child. Baxter Springs resident Ray Alfred Golden is accused of trying to persuade a child to enter his home with the intent to commit an unlawful sexual act upon the child in the home. The alleged incident happened in August 2015. On October 18th, 2018, Golden entered a plea of guilty in lieu of proceeding to trial.
