MSSU heart walk raises money

The Centers for Disease Control says heart disease is the number one killer of Americans.  Today, Four Staters were fighting against it.

The American Heart Association held its Four States Heart Walk at MSSU in Joplin.  The event brought family and friends of those who are suffering from heart disease.  Organizers say this is one event that truly hits home, especially when it comes to funding research for heart disease.

"We have over 18 million dollars that comes to Missouri alone, and even 350 thousand of that coming to Southwest Missouri directly.  So it's something that affects local, but we're also supporting local," says Karl Schmidt with the American Heart Association.
