Joplin Schools Stock the Closet

Joplin's Bright Futures program kicked off a "stock the closet" clothing drive Monday morning.

Jefferson Elementary school staff is collecting clothing items to help fill donation barrel.

The goal is to help school nurses fill their shelves with items for students who experience spills, illnesses or accidents.

Joplin school nurse Holly Toney says "our goal is to have supplies right on sight so students don't have to miss school time. They can grab what they need and get right back to class."

Nurses hope to always have a stock of new or gently used clothing items in their emergency student supply closets to help keep students clean, dry and happy.

From September 30 to October 11, schools will collect the following clothing items in a variety of sizes:

· Unisex sweat bottoms and tops

· Short- and long-sleeve unisex t-shirts

· Unisex elastic-waist long shorts

· New underwear

· Unisex shoes (no flip flops)

· Socks

Other needs:

· Cheese / cracker packs (NO peanut butter crackers)

· Deodorant

Items can be dropped off in the blue Bright Futures barrels located at every Joplin Schools' elementary school.
