Congresswoman Jenkins Hosts 85 WWII Veterans With Heartland Honor Flight Today

WASHINGTON – Last night, Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (KS-02) voted in support of bipartisan House bills to fund vital veteran benefits and services, and reopen national parks, like the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. Unfortunately, a majority of House Democrats put politics ahead of the American people and rejected these funding bills. This morning, Congresswoman Jenkins hosted 85 WWII veterans and their sponsors with the Heartland Honor Flight at the National World War II Memorial in spite of the government shutdown.

“We lose more than 600 of these WWII veterans each day—this is probably their only chance to see their memorial,” said Congresswoman Jenkins. “We owe this to our greatest generation—it is the least we can do. These veterans stormed the beaches at Normandy, liberated Europe and raised the flag at Iwo Jima to protect and preserve freedom across the world.”

The Heartland Honor Flight organized the visit for veterans from Kansas and Missouri including those who live in Leavenworth, Topeka and Lawrence, Kan., and Lees Summit, Smithville and Warrensburg, Mo. To learn more about the Heartland Honor Flight visit: www.heartlandhonorflight.org.
