City of Miami Fire and Human Resources Departments Partner to Raise Funds for Local Breast Cancer Initiatives

(Miami, OK) - The City of Miami Fire and Human Resources Departments are proud to join the fight against breast cancer and will be raising funds during the month of October to support local breast cancer initiatives.

The Fire Department will be selling pink t-shirts beginning Monday, October 7th. T-shirts can be purchased at the north fire station located at 103 Goodrich Blvd from 8:00am to 12:00pm, Monday through Friday. The cost of the t-shirts will be $10.00 (small-XL) and $12.00 (2X-5X). Please contact Amy Bass at (918) 541-2321 or abass@miamiokla.net for more information.

The Human Resources Department will be selling pink wrist bands throughout the month of October. Cost of the wrist bands will be $3.00 each. The wrist bands can be purchased at the Human Resources Department located in the Civic Center at 129 5th Ave NW or by contacting Kim Horn at (918) 541-2235 or khorn@miamiokla.net.

Funds raised by the City of Miami will be donated to INTEGRIS Baptist Regional Health Center through the BRHC Foundation, to provide mammograms to low income women. Although funding will be limited, women who have a financial need, are age 40 or over and have no preexisting breast health issues are encouraged to apply. For more information, contact 918-540-7103.

“There are very few people who haven’t been affected by breast cancer in some way. You might know a family member or co-worker who’s battled this disease. It may be you who is a survivor. Raising awareness about this illness brings hope to those affected by it and also helps bring us closer to finding a cure,” said Kim Horn, City of Miami Human Resources Director.

“Fire services and fire prevention is our forefront, but we have been fortunate enough to participate in breast cancer awareness for the last (5) years. We are a big part of this community, and bringing education about this illness is a great way to support our community. Being supportive is who we are and what we are about, and we are very blessed to be able to help with such a wonderful cause. They say tough guys wear pink so we are honored to do so. The best prevention is early detection. We are hoping for another successful year in raising awareness,” said Ronnie Cline, City of Miami Fire Chief.

Anyone wishing to learn more about these fundraising initiatives can contact the City of Miami at (918) 542-6685. More information is also available at www.miamiok.org.
