New portable rescue tool donated to Carthage Fire Department

Updated:

The Carthage, Missouri Fire Department received a new piece of equipment on Friday.

The Butterball Company donated a new battery powered hydraulic rescue tool to the fire department.  The new tool will help in rescues within enclosed areas.  Firefighters will be able to use the device without the truck and without using fuel.  They say that could be essential when trying to save lives.

"So we are able to use that far away from the truck or inside an industrial plant that is very sensitive to gas motors, we will actually be able to go inside and use that without contaminating the scene," says Carthage Fire Chief Chris Thompson.

The new equipment cost around $10,000.
