Volleyball drops 3-1 decision to visiting Lindenwood

The MissouriSouthern volleyball team dropped a close four-set contest today to visitingLindenwood University, three sets to one. Individual set scores were 22-25,27-25, 25-27 and 25-17. 

Southern(3-11, 0-6 MIAA) was led offensively by KatiePolitte as the junior had 19 kills and ten digs for a double-double. KrishnaMerriman added 13 kills, while AbbyFinder dished out 39 assists. MikaylaAvery had a team-high 13 digs, while PaytonGraves had seven blocks and nine kills. 

Lindenwood(5-11, 2-3 MIAA) was led by 14 kills from Kayla Guyot and 13 from Shannon Doyle.Emma Brydels had 39 assists. 

Lindenwoodhit .333 in the first set, but Southern was right there, hitting .312 as ateam. The set was tied at ten and again at 12 before Lindenwood took a 16-13lead, forcing a Southern timeout. Southern tied the match at 20, but Lindenwoodscored five of the final seven points to take the set. 

Southerntrailed 16-14 and again 20-16 in the second set, but they tied the set at 24and again at 25, before scoring the final two points to take the set. 

The third setwas much like the second as Lindenwood scored the final two points of extraplay and won 27-25. Lindenwood took a 2-1 lead in the fourth set and led fromthen on out to take the match. 

Southern hit.216 in the match and had seven team blocks. 

The Lionswill be back in action on October 10, playing host to Washburn at 7 pm.Southern will then play host to the MSSU Invitational next weekend.
