Volleyball Travels to Kansas for Wednesday Night Match

PRESS RELEASE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA: 

TheSooners visit Lawrence, Kan. for a 6:30 match-up against the Jayhawks. Thecontest will be aired live on ESPN3.

 

1.About the Sooners
Oklahoma is 14-3 overall, and 2-1 in the Big 12 following a thrilling, five-setwin over No. 25 Iowa State on Saturday. Senior middle blocker SallieMcLaurin is hitting a team-best .450, while also leading the way with 3.67kills and 1.33 blocks per set. Sophomore outside hitter Kierra Holst issecond on the team with 3.06 kills per set and a .244 attack rate. Defensively,sophomore libero Taylor Migliazzo leads the Sooners with 3.79 digs perset. As a team, Oklahoma is hitting .254, ranked second in the Big 12, whileholding its opponents to .187. The Sooners lead the Big 12 with 16.71 digs perset.

 

2.Sooners Lead the Series
Oklahoma leadsthe all-time series, 46-31, but trails, 18-15, when playing on the road. Kansasswept the season-series in 2012, with the Sooners last winning when they sweptthe season-series in 2011. The series started with a 2-0 OU win in 1976. Thelongest winning streak in the series is 10, owned by the Sooners between 1982and 1986.

 

3.Nearing the Poll
For the secondtime this season, Oklahoma sits just one spot out of the AVCA Top 25. TheSooners received 79 points, while No. 25 Missouri (18-0) reached the poll with111. Oklahoma was also in this spot for the September 2 poll after the season'sopening weekend. The Sooners were last ranked on November 7, 2011 at No. 25.Kansas was ranked in the preseason at No. 20. The Jayhawks received 42 pointsin the most recent poll.

 

4.Taking Down No. 25
Oklahoma defeated No. 25 Iowa State, 3-2, at McCasland Field House to improveto 2-1 against ranked opponents in 2013. Senior outside hitter KeilaRodriguez registered her team-leading fifth double-double of the seasonwith a match-high 19 kills and 12 digs. McLaurin and Holst were also in doublefigures for kills with 14 and 12, respectively, while redshirt-freshman MadisonWard chipped in with 11.

 

5. Bouncing Back
In 2012, the Sooners were 8-2 when returning to the court after a loss,bouncing back in good form, all but twice. This season, Oklahoma has bouncedback from its first three losses with 3-1 wins over Portland State and LIUBrooklyn and a 3-2 win over No. 25 Iowa State. The Sooners last lost back-to-backgames on November 10 and 14, 2012 with 3-0 defeats to No. 20 Iowa State and No.22 Kansas.

 

6.RPI Released
At the onset of week seven of the season, the NCAA released its first RPIrankings. Oklahoma comes in at No. 19 as it seeks its fifth consecutive trip tothe NCAA Tournament. The Sooners have the third highest RPI among Big 12schools, behind Texas (1) and Kansas (14). Oklahoma is 2-1 against the RPITop-25, with wins over Arkansas (16) and BYU (17), and 3-2 against the Top-50,including a win over Tulsa (34).

 

7.Up Next
TheSooners return home for a 7:00 pm match against Kansas State on Saturday,October 12. The match will also serve as "Military Appreciation Night".
